DM- Peter Heath

ADM- Zoe Sterland

Location- Swanage

Weather- Warm but Windy

Who Went? Rob Y, Matt J, Charlotte B, Peter H, Zoe S.

A quick drive over to Swanage revealed the pier swarming with divers from across the South coast and no hope of a parking space. The sight of Zoe changing into her swimwear rapidly cleared a space on the pier which we used as base camp for the day.

The first Buddy pair into the water consisted of Charlotte and Matt. It was here that Matt started earning his title of anchor of the week by discovering he had brought two left hand gloves (has anyone out there got 2 right handed 5mm waterproof gloves??). Matt and Charlotte dived the new pier, coming up 45mins later to rave about the schools of fish, and the cheeky Tompot Blennies that could be found in cracks in the pier legs.

Pete, Zoe and Rob dived next, this time to the old pier. This dive is a lot brighter than the new pier due to a lack of decking overhead, but does offer slightly less to see, despite the ~5m viz. We did, however, find quite a few different species of fish, and several large(ish) Spider Crabs.

All divers chose to do the new pier for the 2nd dive. This proved to be (in my eyes), the better dive of the day. Rob proved talented at coaxing Tompots out of their holes, and was bitten at least 3 times by one of the fish! The 2nd dive allowed Matt to truly earn the anchor of the week, somehow (and none of us can figure out how!) managing to lose his cylinder boot whilst underwater!

All of us stopped off for a pub supper on the way back to Southampton. Conclusion, a very nice day.

DM - Jess

ADM - Freya

Location - Swanage

Weather - Few clouds here and there with an otherwise beautifully sunny day!

Who went? - Jess, Zoe, Freya, Pete F, Tom "Toby", Mike, Frankie, Matt B, Emma H, Denise

All in all it was a nice day and relatively busy. The visibility was quite low at 2-4m but there was an abundance of life. There were many anemone, seaweed and the usual array of fish: wrasse, tompot blennies, scorpion fish and gobies (even a black-faced goby)! Loads of massive spider crabs too. We even managed to get some training done. Check out the pictures of the day in the Gallery!

DM – Dan

ADM – Chris H

Location - Vobster

Who went – Chris Hauton, Rob Yarlett, Dan Bawden, Anna Macey, Denise Herrera, Anna Totterdell, Jo Weir, Dillion Pinkerton, Matt Jones

We headed off in convoy to Vobster and luckily we all found our way first time! We then undertook the typical Vobster day.... two dives with a burger in the middle! The dives were really good, though the vis wasn’t great because it was pretty busy. It was Denise and Matt’s (who apparently saw a fish) first dives with SUSAC and Dillion’s first open water dive. Unfortunately Denise decided that her wallet should try scuba diving as well, which was perhaps not the best idea! Finally after everyone patiently waited for Rob and I to stop our best Baywatch routine (SO1 drills), we headed back to the Boathard!
