Welcome to SUSAC, the Southampton University Sub-Aqua Club. We're a branch of BSAC, the British Sub-Aqua Club - the world's largest SCUBA diving club.

Everyone is welcome to join - even people from outside the university - and we cater for a range of skill levels. Whether you're an experienced diver or have never dived before but want to give it a go, it's a decision you won't regret.

If you've dived before and have a exisiting qualification you won't need any more training to come diving with us, but the club's BSAC instructors are there to help you further your skills and train for higher qualifications.
If you're completely new to diving, don't worry. Each year as a member you'll have the chance to train as a BSAC diver with our instructors. For more information, see How do I get started?

SUSAC activity boils down to:
  • Diving
We run dive trips most weekends to local sites along the Hampshire and Dorset coasts, and sometimes further afield. To enable us to venture off-shore we have our own boats, and as students aren't generally the richest of people, we also have some of the more expensive kit for you to borrow (BCD's, tanks and regs). We also run longer trips throughout the year, including the popular Easter Novice Trip, to places in Cornwall and anywhere else that looks good for diving.
  • Training
Our training is based on the BSAC qualifications, from Ocean Diver through to Dive Leader and above. All the information lectures and training sessions required for the qualifications are run by the instructors who are club members too, meaning there is no additional cost. For more information on the cost, see What will it cost?
  • Socials
No university club would be complete without the social side. We run regular socials throughout the year; some involving copious amounts of alcohol combined with snorkels, but, as this isn't everyone's thing, others of a less liver damaging nature such as pizza meets and BBQ's. We also have a weekly post-meeting gathering in the Crown Inn pub, which does great food if all that diving talk has left you hungry.
  • Meetings
To discuss all of the above we meet every Tuesday during term time at 20:00 in the Shackleton building Lecture Theatre A (44/1041). The training lectures run before the meeting and then the pub after, so we'll probably take up most of your Tuesday evening (not that there's much else happening on Tuesdays).
