To dive with us you must first become a club member, have SportRec membership to use the university sports facilities and become a member of BSAC if you are not already. For more information, see How do I become a member?
You will also need some kit - your own mask, snorkel, fins, weights and a drysuit or semi-drysuit (see What about a wetsuit? ).
If you don't have some or any of these and would like guidance on what to buy, come and speak to us at a meeting - they are significant purchases!
Then;...
I already have a qualification with BSAC
Great! You can come diving with us straight away - come along to the meetings where we'll announce upcoming trips and how to book a place.
I already have a qualification with a company like PADI, SSI, etc
You can start diving with us after you have attended a simple "crossover lecture", which is just a session that tells you how the skills you have already learnt can be converted for use with BSAC. For example, we'll show you how to use BSAC dive tables.
I have never dived before or have tried diving but not recieved a qualification
Each year we have the capacity (in terms of time and instructor man-power) to train a certain number of novices. Unfortunately, far more people want to train with us than we have space for. Those who are definately interested need to attend the novice meeting and pool try-dive session(s) at the beginning of the academic year, and hopefully we will be able to take as many of you who show interest as possible.
Sorry, but all the novice places this (2009/10) academic year have been filled. You can always try again next year - come along to the 2010 Bunfight!
