Diving is not thought of as the cheapest of sports, which doesn't really combine well with the average student. At SUSAC we try and break the mould a little and make things cheaper, so that diving during your university years will probably cost less than it will any other time in your life.
Please be aware that the club instructors are not being paid. We do this to keep your costs down and because we enjoy it. We do like the odd thank you now and again though!
How much will it cost me?
Club Membership
University of Southampton Student - £33
Non Student Open Water Instructors (any agency)+ and BSAC Advanced Divers - £0
Club membership pays for maintaining, servicing and renewing the kit that the club has for members to use. This includes cylinders, BCDs, regulators, dive timers, emergency equipment (O2 kit, flares, boat radios, first aid kits etc), boats and the compressor.
Athletic Union (AU) Membership
University of Southampton Student - £5
Non Student Open Water Instructors (any agency)+ and BSAC Advanced Divers - £10
The AU membership is paid at the same time as your club membership and we pass on the money to the AU. The AU membership is for insurance (which you will have to pay to join any AU club).
SportRec Membership
Only to be purchased by novice trainees.
Student membership - £110
SportRec membership allows you to use any SportRec facility in the university. This includes the swimming pool where we do novice training.
BSAC Membership Fee
Student - £25
Non Student Open Water Instructor, Advanced Diver - £45
Non Student Advanced Instructor - £40
Since we are a BSAC branch and offer BSAC training you must be a BSAC member. BSAC membership includes thrid party liability insurance amongst a host of other benefits. See www.bsac.com for details.
